In Odessa, the command of the Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine met with representatives of the delegation of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic

The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the issue of the blockade of the Azov Sea by Russia, where, as you know, in the beginning of 2018, the situation with the freedom of navigation has deteriorated as a result of, firstly, the establishment of the FSB of the Russian Inspection on all civil vessels passing from and to Ukrainian ports. Secondly, due to an increase in waiting time for obtaining permission to pass the Kerch Strait by these vehicles. Thus, Russia considers its domination in the Black Sea region as a tool for designing power in the Mediterranean and the Middle East.

Also, the participants talked about the main areas of concentration of the efforts of the aggressor country in order to influence Ukraine and dominate the northern part of the Black and Azov Seas.

In particular, it was about the Crimea occupied by Russia in 2014, which became a “unsinkable aircraft carrier” and a bridgehead for generating forces for Russian operations in the Black Sea region. We recalled the gas platforms within the Ukrainian exclusive maritime zone, which flooded the Russians in March 2014. During the meeting, it was also noted that at present the Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is taking all measures to contain aggression on the continental part of Ukraine, as well as to protect its sovereign rights in the Azov Sea and the Kerch Strait.

We are grateful for the support given to us by the EU countries, in particular the Czech Republic, in our struggle for independence. It is very important for us, especially in such a difficult time. This once again proves that now the confrontation with the aggressive and illegal actions of the Russian Federation is not only on the part of Ukraine but also on the part of the whole of Europe, “said the Chief of Staff, First Deputy Commander of the Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Vice Admiral Andriy Tarasov.
In turn, the chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, Lubomir Zaorakole, remarked that Russia once again proved that he wants to dominate the sea and use it as an instrument for limiting the economic development of Ukraine.

In the Czech Republic, closely monitored the situation in the Black and Azov Seas, as well as the fate of captive military seamen. Even more recently, in Europe, they could not even imagine what could happen to this. I am sorry that this conflict has not yet been resolved diplomatically, – said Mr. Lubomir.
